And the Winner is.......

Ethan Vallis!!! (Sorry Chris . . . he he)

Well done Ethan on a fantastic end to the season, leaving your run until late on and then taking the league title by a clear 15 points.

1st – Ethan Vallis – 194 points - £100
2nd – Steve Calvert – 179 points - £50
3rd – Humphrey Bogart – 178 points - £25

It’s been a close-fought league right up to the play-off finals weekend, but Ethan predicted both Peterborough and Huddersfield in the final AND in the correct position - for what turned out to be a comfortable victory. And it was his mastery in the “League and Cup” section where he achieved ELEVEN . . . yes, ELEVEN . . . correct predictions which really proved to be the difference.

Steve Calvert, long-time contender, just pipped another long-time contender Humphrey Bogart by one point to second place - Steve reached 179 points to The Humph’s 178. Cheques and Certificates will be in the post very soon guys.

And it was a case of “So Close, Yet So Far” for our nearly men and women. Martin Cass finished fourth on 172 and Chris Walton one point back on 171; Christian Fox’s debut season has ended very respectably in sixth place on 167. Edward Cundick 166, Troy Lacend 166, Will Caxton 165 and Steve Calvert (again) on 165 round off the top ten places. Don’t forget, final placings are based on total points and then the tie-breaker of correct Darlo scores achieved.

Top Lady is Lorraine Arscott in 13th place on 162, followed by Rhonda Fleming in 16th on 160 (how does she know so much about “soccaaaaa”?) and Lucy Grainge in 17th on 160 points.

And the Wooden Spoon was an even tighter affair – three managers finished on 86 points, but David Sheppey eventually “triumphing” on the countback system. The Spoon (of the extremely naff variety) will be on its way to you in the very near future David!!!

Top three in each section are:

Darlington Scores:
1 – Humphrey Bogart – 133 points
2 – Paul Robinson – 125 points
3 – Steve Calvert – 125 points

League and Cup:
1 – Ethan Vallis – 68 points
2 – Darren Darvill – 47 points
3 – Lynne Pape – 47 points

Local Football:
1 – Adrian Lynch – 37 points
2 – Will Caxton – 37 points
3 – Randolph Scott – 32 points

It’s been a record-breaking Come On Darlo Prediction League this season with 204 managers entered, not only culminating in a close-fought battle but in Darlo’s fantastic trip to Wembley on May 7 with that last-gasp win over Mansfield. Go on, have a look at that goal once more, you know you want to!!!

Around £250 has been raised this year for The Quakers’ youth development run by Craig Liddle and a big thanks to Lance Ireland who has added an extra £25 by donating his prize for finishing third. Let’s hope the next Dan Burn won’t be too far away in that youth system!!!

A big thank you to all who took part and, as always, if you weren’t mentioned in regular emails this season . . . very sorry, but you weren’t good enough or bad enough!!!

Hope to see you all next season for Round 8 – Pete
