Craig Liddle - Darlington Legend!

Craig Liddle’s legend status is already assured, sainthood cannot be far away!!! His patched up team . . . now permanently missing captain Ian Miller who has left the club after the off-field problems . . . gave a spirited display against high-flying Gateshead and were unlucky to come away with only one point in a 1-1 draw. Marc Bridge-Wilkinson equalising from the spot (his fifth penner of the season) and with a sound display from Kris Taylor as an emergency centre-back. Another who left the club on Christmas Eve was Jonatan Sanchez- Munoz who looked a decent prospect . . . another victim of the off-field issues.

And it looks like Wednesday will be D-Day (or A-Day) for the club when chairman Raj Singh is believed to be meeting the players. If there is no progress on pay for the players, it seems likely that several more first teamers will exercise their right to leave. If that happens, it’s anyone’s guess where the club goes from there.

We have a new leader of the Come On Darlo Prediction League – Paul Soderman breaks the 70-point barrier with his correct score (and also snatches the £10 spot prize for being top of the league at the year’s end), closely followed by Damian Dickson on 66 while Chris Kane drops back to third on 65. And a couple of “old timers” are riding high - Neil Raper in fourth on 64 with Tim Hewitson on 63, joined there by Martin Cass with his latest max score.

Neil Danby and Mick Moriarty hasve jumped into contention on 61 with their eight-pointers; and we have another Vallis not far from the leaders . . . this time it’s Callum showing good form on 60 points in joint 11th place.

The 1-1 scoreline generated the largest number of correct scores so far this season, so lots of points added to the league table: Alf Hutchinson, Andrew Ashmore, Carl Hankin, Chris Walton, Colin Wakefield, Dan Taylor, Dave Wilson, Dave Woods, David Taylor, David Welton, Dean Martin, Gillian Percival, Jenny Maughan, Jonathon Kane, Julie Gardner, Karen Sheen, Kevin Kidger, Lewis Raper, Liam Pape, Malcolm Cundick 1, Mark Hathaway, Martyn Walton, Mel Douglas, Michael Swain, Mike Cass, Mike Cleasby 1, Nick Groves, Paul Dickson, Paul Johnson 2, Paul Robinson, Peter White, Rhonda Fleming, Robert Mitchum, Sam Taylor, Stephen Atkinson, Steve Calvert 3, Steve Dickson, Steve Duffy 2, Stuart Williams, Sue Abell, Terence Sadler, Terry Simpson, Tim Hewitson, Tracey Pickersgill, Trevor Gretton.

Richard Soul continues to cling to bottom place with the usual suspects of Andrew Pickersgill, Martyn Cripps and Phil Foster keeping pace his scores. But plenty of time for a new challenger for the wooden spoon to make their mark.

Return game against Gateshead is at The Arena on New Year’s Day (all things being well) so let’s hope for a good turn-out to support Lidds and the remaining players.

Pete
