Half-way house for Darlington's season

It’s half-way house for Darlington’s season – 23 games played with the latest against the tough Forest Green Rovers who have been scoring for fun recently. And with no recognised strikers available, centreback Graeme Lee was pushed up front to provide a target. In truth, it meant The Quakers were pretty toothless in front of goal but they did well to hold Rovers to a 0-0 draw – with their opponents hitting the post twice in the second half.

Not that many with the correct score then – Alex Wilson has hit 45 points so isn’t that far behind the leaders but David Welton is even better placed on 49. Lewis Raper’s 8-pointer gives him 39 points in 66th place with Nick Groves and The Stig just behind on 37. Harry Pape isn’t doing badly either with 34 points along with Steve Calvert’s third XI.

Jayne Hathaway is well in with a shout on 44, whilst Toby Corum’s third team has just scraped on to the first page of the league tables.

It’s not much change for others at the top and bottom of the table though several will have acquired a couple of points after some omitted scores have been added (league points after 15 games). So Malcolm Cundick is still there on 62, closely followed by Steve Curtis on 60 with one-time leader Chris Kane on 59 and our own Ecnal Dnaleri in fourth place on 58. Jean Johnson and Martin Clarke still pushing for honours on 56.

No change for The Stiffs – Richard Soul retains bottom place on 12, Andrew Pickersgill, Martyn Cripps and Thomas Jackson remain just ahead on 15.

Darlo are due to play against Kettering on Tuesday evening with big problems over injuries and suspensions. However, this is nothing compared to the problems being experienced by Kettering who, it is rumoured, are due to hold a meeting on Monday evening to see if the club can survive. Football existence is becoming harder and harder each year at our level.
